چکیده

We study a time-dependent hydrogen ionization in the atmosphere of SN 1987A during the first month after the explosion. The model includes kinetics of hydrogen ionization and excitation, molecular hydrogen kinetics, and a time-dependent energy balance. The primary strong effect of the time-dependent ionization is the enhanced hydrogen ionization compared to the steady-state model. The time-dependent ionization provides a sufficient population of excited hydrogen levels to account for the observed Hα without invoking the external 56Ni. We find that the Ba II 6142 Å line in SN 1987A can be reproduced for the LMC barium abundance. This resolves the long-standing problem of the unacceptably high barium overabundance in SN 1987A. The key missing factor that should be blamed for the ”barium problem” is the time-dependent ionization. The modelling of the Hα profile on day 4.64 indicates the ratio of the kinetic energy to the ejected mass ≈ 0.83 × 1050erg M−1 ⊙ .

Freeze-out Effects in Hydrogen and Helium Lines of SN 1987A at the Early Photospheric Epoch

We have developed a time-dependent model of ionization, excitation and energy balance of SN 1987A atmosphere at the photospheric epoch to study early behavior of hydrogen and helium lines. The ionization freeze-out effects play a key role in producing both the strong Hα during nearly the first month and the He I 5876 Å scattering line on day 1.76. Using an extended reaction network between hydr...

We have shown that in the atmosphere of SN 1987A level populations of hydrogen are mostly controlled by an ionization freeze-out and ion-molecular processes up to ∼ 40 days. The ionization freeze-out effects are important for normal SNe II-P as well. The time dependent effects and the mutual neutralization between H − and H + may result in a non-monotonic radial dependence of the Sobolev optica...

Late Spectral Evolution of SN 1987A: I. Temperature and Ionization

The temperature and ionization of SN 1987A is modeled between 200 and 2000 days in its nebular phase, using a time-dependent model. We include all important elements, as well as the primary composition zones in the supernova. The energy input is provided by radioactive decay of 56Co, 57Co, and 44Ti. The thermalization of the resulting gamma-rays and positrons is calculated by solving the Spence...

We investigate radioactivity from the decay sequence of Ti in young supernova remnants (SNRs), Cassiopeia A (Cas A) and SN 1987A. It is shown by a linear analysis that ionization of Ti, a pure electron capture decay isotope, affects the radioactivity contradistinctively in these two SNRs: Ionization of Ti to H-like and He-like states enhances its present radioactivity in Cas A, while such high-...

Constraints on a Putative Pulsar in Sn 1987a

We assume that all the energy loss of the putative pulsar in SN 1987A would contribute to the luminosity of the remnant, which acts like a bolometer. The bolometric luminosity of SN 1987A provides an upper bound on the pulsar’s rate of energy loss. An isolated pulsar spinning down by magnetic dipole radiation alone with initial rotation periods of 10–30 ms, as extrapolated for galactic young pu...
